‘The Tour Of Yellow Roses’ Featuring Highly Suspect and Dead Poet Society — Fayetteville, AR — 6.1.26
Not too many rock artists make their way to Arkansas, but Highly Suspect and Dead Poet Society took a trip to Fayetteville to bring a night of heavy grooves over to Ozark Music Hall. Even with only two bands on the lineup tonight, the venue was packed all the way past the front of house, and the large crowd was ready for a couple hours of disconnection from the world to enjoy live music together.
To start the night off, Dead Poet Society immediately brought their signature sound out with their newest song “Sinner Systems”. Stepping up to the front of the stage with the mic in one hand and the cord loosely wrapped in another, vocalist Jack Underkofler took command of the crowd immediately as the rest of the band locked in on grooves for the entirety of their set. Something that always feels so special about their performances is how in tune all of the members are with each other when it comes to playing live. Every note and move is intentional, and the intensity of it all translates well to any crowd as they are moving along with them. For an opening band, they really make it hard when someone has to follow up after them.
Highly Suspect maintained that energy and crowd participation by immediately taking a moment in the first song to establish the rock show everyone was about to have and to direct the crowd into opening up the pit. To add on to that, crowdsurfers also made their way to the front where a lot of them received a flower as a reward for their participation. Their set was entertaining in the fact that a lot of songs in the setlist included “jam session” moments where it was strictly instrumental parts intertwining with each other that built up the momentum until it lead back to the song, which felt like a special experience you could only really feel when it is live and right in front of your eyes. Even as someone who didn’t know a whole lot about their music, I was kept engaged with their performance and had a great time watching and would recommend them to anyone.
