On Tuesday, Of Mice & Men released a statement regarding the cancellation of their remaining European tour dates. In regards of the cancellation, it comes with the concern of front man Austin Carlile‘s health. Carlile has been dealing with continuing health problems related to his diagnose of Marfan Syndrome. After Carlile became ill during their show on October 8th in Portsmouth, the band had to cut their set short. The following day the band realized they needed to cancel the tour to focus on Carlile’s health situation. Read that statement that the band posted below.
“Dear European Fans,
It is with our sincerest apologies that we are forced to cancel the remaining dates on this current headline tour. We had to cut short our set in Portsmouth on Saturday night due to Austin being in pain throughout the show. We attempted to play the show in Cardiff the following night, but it became increasingly obvious that we were not able to continue and that we need to focus on Austin’s health. As much as we wish we could complete the remaining dates of this tour we know that we would be doing a disservice to all of our loyal fans, as well as ourselves, performing under the current circumstances.
The reality is that we feel the best thing to do right now is go home, get Austin the appropriate medical attention & regroup before we head back out on the road again. We appreciate that our fans understand how important it is that we put health first & foremost & know that we would never cancel shows unless we felt it absolutely necessary.
Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all cancelled shows.
Much love- Aaron, Alan, Austin, Phil & Tino.”
Shortly after this statement was released, Carlile posted a statement on his Instagram account.
“As most of you know I battle daily with a rare fibrostic connective tissue disorder called Marfan syndrome. Due to recent issues arising from this, we have cancelled the remainder of our European tour. It breaks my heart but the band & myself have decided it was unsafe for me to continue on in this state of health. I’m being admitted to Stanford University hospital where my specialists have been informed & are prepared to figure out what exactly is wrong. I will remain there as long as needed to run tests & come up with an assessment of what exactly is causing my body & heart to seize up. My deepest apologies for those who were on tour with us & also those coming to our shows. I would never cancel unless a limb was falling off or it was endangering my life. Unfortunately it has become the later. Thank you to those who understand & support this decision, I promise to keep pushing & treat this as another hill to climb. My dad has flown from Costa Rica, & my team at Stanford are like family to me, so know that I am not alone. I also know I have all of you, & times like this reassure & warm my heart to know you stand with me as well. Please do not worry for me, there are multiple things more important happening in the world right now. Besides, God has a plan, all of this is in His hands at the end of the day and I’m ready for whatever comes next. – AC”
The band was touring in support of the release of their new album “Cold World” released September 9th via Rise Records. The supporting acts, Crown The Empire and Hands Like Houses had to drop a majority of the remaining tour dates as well.
