‘American Tour 2025’ Featuring The Plot In You, Northlane, Invent Animate, and Windwaker — Kansas City, MO — 9.11.25
A wave of metalcore music crashed through Kansas City as The Plot In You, Northlane, Invent Animate, and Windwaker were set to perform at The Midland on Thursday, and the beautiful venue was suited for a night of headbanging, moshing and crowdsurfing as the crowd was filling up the large theater. If anyone is a fan of rising bands in the scene, chances are they know how stacked this lineup is, and the energy filling up in the room proved that to be true.
Starting the night off was Windwaker, which is the only band I did not know out of the lineup, but they did not disappoint. Fun and energetic members moved across the stage to engage with the audience as much as possible, and mosh pits were already starting as they showed they are worth paying attention to as the tone was set for the rest of the night.
Next was Invent Animate, one of my personal favorites in the genre. Immediately opening the set with “False Meridian”, the audience lit up as the drawn-out guitar riffs and heavy-hitting drum and bass tones resonated with the audience. Their set consisted of nothing but fast-paced, syncopated-rhythm action with the slowest song being “Heavener” for a moment for the audience to hold a light up and connect with one another. The drops and breakdowns brought out multiple moments of moshing as the energy level from the crowd was rising from every song. Something I really do like about their performances is their stage presence and the way each member moves so elegantly and smoothly in an environment where everything is fast and frantic.
Northlane came next, which brought on a darker, more electronic-centered vibe to the atmosphere. Starting with “Carbonized”, the set consisted of moodier lighting against the band as they kept the crowd energetic. Crowdsurfing began to happen more frequently, and the audience reacted to the music and participation more as the set went on, which helped set up the headliner perfectly to top off the night.
The Plot In You used the energy that was brought up to their advantage and played most of their more recent catalogue from the ‘Volume’ collections. Starting with “Spare Me”, the crowd was immediately screaming the words back to the band throughout the set. About halfway into the set, a brand new song that was set to come out that night called “Silence” was played, which really showed both ends of the spectrum when it comes to vocalist Landon Tewers and his talent by starting off soft and emotional and exploding into heavy and aggressive feelings. Lots of opportunities for crowd participation as calls for crowdsurfing and singing happened all throughout the set, which really strengthened the connections between artists and fans. Topping it off with “Feel Nothing” showed that The Plot In You really is only going up in their career right now with how well the crowd reacted to the night.
