Rapper – turned – rockstar Machine Gun Kelly nearly swept the rock categories at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards this past Sunday all thanks to the success of his smash hit debut pop-punk album ‘Tickets to my Downfall’. The ‘My Bloody Valentine’ singer took home the ‘Top Rock Artist‘ award, as well as ‘Top Rock Album’ which makes up 2/3 of the awards in the rock genre category for the BMA’s.
MGK took to the BMA’s stage, and gave an acceptance speech where he thanked his girlfriend, Megan Fox, his daughter, and his family. He also gave a heartfelt reminder to struggling performers and artists to never give up on their dreams when it comes to their work. Kelly said:
“I released my first mixtape 15 years ago, and this is the first big stage I’ve ever been invited to accept an award on,” an emotional Kelly said as he took the stage…I wanna say something to the dreamers out there who are going to be tested by reality the way I was — suspend logic and invite magic. If five years or 10 years or 12 years had been too long waiting for this moment, then I wouldn’t be having this moment. Show the universe that it can’t take your dream from you.”
