Alternative super-duo Darko (US) return with the release of their latest single, “Donna”.
The heart-wrenching track pays a powerful tribute to drummer Josh Miller‘s late grandmother, who is featured in home movie footage throughout the music video alongside scenes of Miller‘s grandfather in silent contemplation.
Working to not only reflect on, but reconcile with loss, “Donna”‘s vulnerable and unbarred emotion attests to the band’s use of music as a cathartic outlet and speaks to a tight bond formed with processing grief and healing.
A smooth and flowing vocal cadence over a guitar introduces a calm and ethereal atmosphere. Sentimentality is the vehicle Tom Barber uses to evoke a strong reaction in listeners, whose voice erupts into a display of vehement and palpable anger, depression, and reminiscence on the comforting familiarity of home over ambient instrumentals.

This is a deep one for me, it’s called “Dona” for my grandmother who has passed away. This song is a mixture of emotions and memories. Love you grandma. Full video here https://t.co/cJBOe6V61u pic.twitter.com/pnO7nspV26
