St. Louis metalcore ensemble Broken Youth ruminate on hopelessness and self-alienation with their latest single, “Dis/connected”.
Growing more and more detached from one’s identity in a state of distress is the song’s emotional focal point, with the accompanying music video serving as an appropriate visual representation of the self-architected unfamiliar void reflected on in its lyrics.
Film dust overlays and a dark, duo-chromatic red color scheme help create a home movie aesthetic, and the band’s performance fades in and out of scenes depicting the band’s vocalist and a female character with ghostly presence. Here, the thoughts and feelings associated with a distant relationship with oneself are transparent and easily translate to viewers’ eyes.
Broken Youth present “Dis/connected” as a song made for enthusiasts of heavy music– screams permeate the atmosphere with raw aggression alongside pummelling drums, fast-paced riffs, and guitar dissonance with an aura of fright, ultimately building to the song’s melodic chorus break.
The band’s forthcoming EP, ‘Suffering:Silence, Vol.1’ is slated to release January 29 via Modern Empire Music.
