PREMIERE: DEFICIT RELEASE NEW SINGLE + MUSIC VIDEO “TRIGGER” (TRACK ANALYSIS)
Australian metal outfit DEFICIT have released their latest single, “Trigger”, premiering exclusively on CaliberTV.
An electronic melody briefly introduces viewers to DEFICIT before “Trigger” unleashes its nu-metalcore fury. Vocalist Nathan Newman‘s savage gusto screams “there’s a lot of you but there’s more like me,” as riffs with djent-esque groove and a pounding drum cadence shake the song’s atmosphere.
Seconds in, viewers know DEFICIT came to showcase their element in its rawest form. Watching the band’s performance, viewers realise arming the members of DEFICIT with instruments transforms a group of individuals into a being of ferocity with an explosive presence who pride themselves in showcasing their persistent all-or-nothing attitude.
The video’s visual effects don’t shy away from asserting a firm grip on anyone’s attention, either, whether it’s the quartet appearing to mirror themselves, colors flashing beneath them as they embody video game characters preparing for a strategic attack, or bold white letters illuminating a dark room with the song’s hook.
The dissonance of industrial sounds in the background prevail at the song’s midpoint, and “Trigger” finally descends into a slow, menacing breakdown, with Newman‘s screaming “wake up” piercing through instrumental layers. “Trigger” strikes a calculated balance between passion and aggression, with an infectious energy to be comfortably absorbed by insatiable heavy music enthusiasts.
