After a highly successful first year in Anaheim in 2019, California’s first ever “Swancore”/Metal festival, Swanfest, returned following its three year COVID-19 hiatus. This time, taking place at Heart Health Park in Tree City — Sacramento, CA.

The festival, which was headlined by the festival creators themselves Dance Gavin Dance, featured an eighteen band lineup which also included Animals As Leaders, Knocked Loose, Movements, Anthony Green, Fire From The Gods, Kublai Khan, Royal Coda, Born of Osiris, Volumes, Veil Of Maya, Moon Tooth, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Eidola, Covet, Hail The Sun, A Skylit Drive, and The Fall of Troy.

On the morning of April 14th, a post was made by Dance Gavin Dance informing fans of the unfortunate news that their friend/bassist, Tim Feerick, had passed away the previous night. At the time of the announcement, plans for Swanfest and their subsequent headliner were unclear, but the band ultimately announced to fans that the festival and tour will continue as planned in honor and dedication to their late friend, Tim.

The festival culminated with a headlining set by Dance Gavin Dance. Opening with their latest single “Synergy”, DGD took the stage. Emotions were high on both sides reaching a point where the 10,000+ in attendance lended their voices whenever frontman Tilian’s voice broke down. Loud “Tim!” and “Thank you, Tim!” chants could be heard in between songs as many broke into tears though out the entirety of the set. After a performance of their track “Man of the Year”, the band briefly exited the stage as a new banner dropped showing a portrait of Tim; immortalizing the late bassist. Following a moment of silence, DGD finished their set with performances of “Lemon Meringue Tie” and “We Own The Night”

RIP Tim Feerick 1988-2022
