Tampa’s staple radio rock station hit the rock fans hard with this year’s 98ROCKFEST! This year the line up highlighted rock icons Staind, Seether, Asking Alexandria, as well as some up and coming artists like Dayseeker and Ayron Jones.

Ayron Jones was a strong opener for this year’s festival as he and his band immediately grabbed the audience’s attention. His evident blending of blues, hip-hop, and soul with hard rock and grunge made his set stand out sonically. The stage presence and charismatic performance his band had also kept the crowd engaged for the little bit of time they were performing.

Dayseeker gave everyone whiplash when they hit the stage. Playing mostly songs from their album ‘Dark Sun’ the crowd became well aware (if they weren’t already) that this band pours their hearts into every aspect of their music. Dayseeker’s captivating performance left me and probably a lot of the crowd in tears, not just because of the heavy lyricism but also because of just how beautiful their performance was.

Asking Alexandria came on for another round of whiplash. Hitting the crowd with a sick mixture of their older and newer music that touched on every fan in the building. Their different sounds throughout the years being played all at once somehow blended together perfectly through the whole set. Their stage presence was also a highlight as frontman Danny Worsnop kept talking to the crowd in between songs to keep the show fresh and interactive.

Seether brought the house down starting off with their hit “Gasoline.” I’ve seen these guys live enough times to say their live sound is always fantastic. Their commitment to their sound is astounding, but also doesn’t take away from their stage presence! The live environment gives room for the other members in the band to shine, not just sonically, but their overall performance.

Staind finally took the stage and fans were having a blast singing along to some of Staind’s iconic hits. Audience members even crowd surfing to a few select tracks. It definitely was a night to remember and I can’t wait to see what the festival has in store for next year!
