Wendy’s has teamed up with Rise Records and several familiar names from the alternative scene for a six-track emo album titled ‘Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot’.
Released September 23, the project features vocalists Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire and Anberlin, Chloe Kinnon of Winona Fighter, Shane Told of Silverstein, Beau Bokan of blessthefall, Derek DiScanio of State Champs, and Kat Leon of Holy Wars.
Rather than using fictional bands or AI-generated performances, Wendy’s recruited musicians from the scene and brought in producer and songwriter Matt Squire, whose credits include Panic! At The Disco, All Time Low, Simple Plan, Sum 41 and more, to lead the project.
The resulting album takes familiar emo and pop-punk tropes and applies them to Wendy’s staples, late-night fast-food runs and the experience of sitting in a restaurant parking lot after everything else has gone wrong.
According to Squire, the concept taps into both the renewed popularity of emo among younger listeners and the nostalgia of fans who grew up with the genre.
‘Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot’ is available now across major streaming platforms, with music videos and additional behind-the-scenes content also planned around the release.
