Crystal Lake cover The Ghost Inside’s “Wide Eyed”
In the wake of The Ghost Inside’s devastating bus accident, several musicians have reached out with their love and support. In even more specific instances, these musicians have also released touching tributes through covering a selection of the band’s songs. One such band hail all the way from Japan, proof of how far this tragedy has reached the heavy music world.
In an act of genuine valiance, Crystal Lake have taken it upon themselves to cover The Ghost Inside’s song “Wide-Eyed” off the band’s latest record, Dear Youth. It’s an incredibly solid rendition of the song, starting out by sticking close to the original song’s nature. Halfway through though, the vocalist of the band breaks through during an ambient section to show his appreciation for Jonathan Vigil and how he has influenced him. From there the cover transforms into a beautifully textured singing section featuring Japanese solo artist Yosh who lends the bridge an R&B feel. After rocketing back towards the original vibe, the cover ends brutally with a crushing breakdown and low growling.
This act of kindness and homage to a band so many hold closely is in great taste and will leave its listeners in awe of the creativity imbued in this original take on an already heavy-hitting song. If this doesn’t prove that we need a tribute album for The Ghost Inside featuring musicians from all over the heavy music spectrum, not much else will.
The cover is available now for purchase on iTunes in which 100% of the proceeds will be going directly to The Ghost Inside to help pay for their medical expenses. Check out “Wide Eyed” now below.
