Northlane have released their new single, “Crucified,” the latest preview of their upcoming seventh studio album, ‘Anemoia’.
Set to arrive October 30, ‘Anemoia’ continues the Australian metalcore band’s evolution of their electronic-heavy sound, with “Crucified” following previously released singles “Evian” and “CUT_it.”
According to frontman Marcus Bridge, “Crucified” explores the breakdown of civil discourse and the increasingly hostile nature of disagreements both online and in everyday life.
He adds that the song extends beyond politics, touching on online arguments, war and the broader deterioration of communication between people with opposing viewpoints.
“‘Crucified’ is about the collapse of civil discourse – the way every disagreement now defaults to attack, every conversation becomes a battleground, every difference of opinion ends with someone playing the victim. Not only touching on politics, it’s about the regression of communication as a whole: arguments online, wars, general difference of opinion. If you’re offside, misaligned / we won’t rest tonight / till you’re fucking crucified. The instinct to go for the throat rather than hear someone out has seeped into every corner of life.”
‘Anemoia’ was executive produced by Jordan Fish and draws inspiration from trance, drum-and-bass, jungle, pop and other electronic styles alongside Northlane’s established metalcore sound. The album will also feature Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez on its title track.
Following the album’s release, Northlane will close out the year supporting Dayseeker across the UK and Europe beginning November 28.
