FOR FANS OF: August Burns Red, ERRA, Like Moths to Flames, Volumes, Currents, Kingdom of Giants

Fronted by Ryan Williams and also featuring guitarists Jayson Warren, Brandon Gazzigli, bassist Kyle Smutny, and drummer Ryan Hammy, the Redding, CA metalcore quintet Sunspear take center stage today with the release of their brand new single “The Manic”, premiering today exclusively on CaliberTV.

Forming in early 2019, the band entered the studio to record their debut EP Phantom Pain, which was released on the tail end of 2019. Recently, the band returned to the studio with producer Matt Thomas/Ashtone Audio (Darko, Kingdom of Giants, Dark Signal) and are currently recording new music where they aim to find their sound while also staying true to the sound that original built them.

“Brimming with a fantastic mixture of rising atmosphere, climactic heaviness and a melodious tapping guitar lead, it’s easy to draw comparisons to veterans of the progressive metalcore sound such as Erra and Invent, Animate. Similar to those bands, an effective combination of brutal growls and gorgeous clean sung vocals are utilized. One trick SUNSPEAR have up their sleeve that separates them from the pack is their masterfully timed song progressions.”

We sat down with Sunspear to discuss the band’s musical approach, the many influences that have helped shape their sound, and why YOU need to be paying attention to Sunspear right now.

FOR READERS UNFAMILIAR WITH YOU, WHAT IS THE ONE SONG THEY NEED TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW AND WHY?

“Either ‘Morii’ or ‘The Manic’. With ‘Morii’, the song is just so beautifully written both musically and lyrically, while our newest single ‘The Manic’ is heavy, in-your-face-aggressive and lyrically speaks to the mental issues so many of us can face.”

WHEN SHOWS INEVIDABLY RETURN, WHY DO FANS NEED TO COME SEE YOU LIVE?

“We are passionate about the music we play, and that’s reflected in the performance. We love intimate settings where we can be up close to the audience and not only include them, but feed off the energy. We can’t wait until things are safe for fans, artists and promoters alike to get back out there and play shows!”
