Honey Revenge Deliver A Super Fun, Catchy Sophomore Record With ‘Loving And Losing’

California pop rockers Honey Revenge have returned with the sophomore record, ‘Loving and Losing’. This marks their first full release since 2023’s ‘Retrovision’. This album really shows them furthering their sound since the last record. They go exploring to more poppier sides for the most part, but aren’t afraid to get a little heavy in parts as well. 

I think a big strength this album has going for it is the melodies and catchiness throughout. They’re a band that is known for how catchy their songs are, and this album is chock full of them. They already have new classics to their discography such as “Run Your Mouth” and “Butterfly Effect” that show off just how fun and catchy they can be to the max. They also dive into more of a dark pop rock vibe with “Poison Apple Baby”, something I hope they explore more in the future. They also have more signature feeling tracks like “Inevitable” and “Jealousy Monster” that I’m sure fans are gonna love. And on the other side, the poppiest songs they have that have a club vibe to them with “Hot Commodity” and “Superstitious”. Ending the album with the title track also feels perfect for this, as it’s intimate and has its most vulnerable lyrics to show in a very sweet and honest fashion.

Vocalist Devin Papadol knows how to hit these melodies really well, and she gives off an energy and charisma to these songs that feel essential to the band. She carries these tracks with such a fierce and fun attitude, and she definitely has the stage presence at their live show to back these songs up live. Guitarist Donny Lloyd also has such an integral role in the band, as they provide such a fun atmosphere in their guitar parts. Whether it’s a fun little riff or a guitar solo, they know just what to bring to each individual track and it really does speak for itself on the record. 

All in all, I think ‘Loving and Losing’ is a truly worthy follow-up to Honey Revenge’s debut record. They refine a lot of what made them special, and expanded upon their sound to show people why they’re as fun and catchy as they are. But that they’re also willing to experiment and show off some variety going forward.
