Beartooth Grows More With Self-Discovery With ‘Pure Ecstasy’

Metalcore legends Beartooth have returned with their sixth full-length, with ‘Pure Ecstasy’. This marks their first release since 2023’s ‘The Surface’. This record dives a lot into the themes of the last record, when it comes to the journey of healing and self-discovery with the band’s lyrical content.

This band has truly grown a lot since their inception, especially with vocalist Caleb Shomo’s journey internally. The lyrics really feel genuine and like a new leaf for Caleb, and it shows throughout this whole album. I also think they’ve always been a band who shines on their choruses, and that’s no exception here. On tracks like “Eyes Closed”, “Beautiful Again”, and “Lose You to Find Me” have the band truly locking in and delivering epic choruses that are sure to be highlight off this album. There’s no denying that this band still has hits to show the world, with massive melodies and honest lyrics as always.

I do think where this record shines in some tracks, it lacks immensely in others. I do think tracks like “Stadiums” and “You” feel like they bring the album down for me personally in the traits of this band that I don’t find as appealing. And the production for Beartooth has never been their strongest suit for me either, and here is no exception. Even through its ups and downs, the band manages to maintain their growth as artists and make the music they wanna make. And I will always admire them, and especially Caleb, for doing exactly that.

So all in all, ‘Pure Ecstasy’ shows that Beartooth still has some gas left in the tank over a decade into their career. It may be far from perfect on this release, but they show just how honest and self reflective they can be as a band in the lyrics and the songs themselves.
