With two festival appearances locked in this spring at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple, Sleeping With Sirens booked a 13 date headlining tour they dubbed the ‘Family Tree Tour’ which began on May 15th in Little Rock, AR and concluded on June 2nd in Riverside, CA. On the penultimate date of the tour, Sleeping With Sirens made their way to Sacramento’s Ace Of Spades, bringing with them Dayseeker and M.A.G.S. as support.

M.A.G.S.

Admittedly, this was the first time I had ever heard of M.A.G.S., but it was definitely not the last. His interesting blend of feel funky garage rock and alt-pop made me an instant fan (immediately adding him to my library following the set). Standout tracks from the set include “Smile”, “Elephant”, and the set closer “Sins”.

Dayseeker

Next up was the tour’s direct support Dayseeker. The Southern California four piece has gained a lot of traction since the release of their latest studio album ‘Dark Sun’ which released in late 2022. The band opened up with the first track from that album “Dreamstate“. Frontman Rory Rodriguez is arguably one of the best vocalists in alternative music at the moment and the band is instrumentally at the top of their game as well. Half of the 10 song set list featured tracks from ‘Dark Sun’ such as “Homesick”, “Without Me”, “Crying While You’re Dancing”, and “Neon Grave”. The band also threw in a throwback with “Gates of Ivory” and a handful of performances from ‘Sleeptalk’ such as “Crooked Soul”, “Burial Plot”, “Drunk” and “Sleeptalk”.

Sleeping With Sirens

For the main event, the post-hardcore legends Sleeping With Sirens took the stage. In perhaps the biggest surprise of the night, the band opened up with a underrated classic in “Tally It Up, Settle The Score” from their second studio album ‘Let’s Cheers to This’. Having had the pleasure to watch Sleeping With Sirens perform live on countless occasions at this point, SWS put together a set list that could satisfy both new and longtime fans with equal attention given to their entire discography. Halfway through the set, fans in attendance were treated to acoustic performances of “Scene Five: With Ears To See, and Eyes to Hear”, and their now iconic cover of “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls. Other standouts from the set included performances of “Kick Me”, “Leave It All Behind”, “A Trophy Father’s Trophy Son”, “Crosses”, and the certified classics “If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn”, “Do It Now Remember It Later”, and “If You Can’t Hang”.
