Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, Bleeker – Pier Six Pavilion – Baltimore, MD – 7.7.16
In this series of summer shows at Pier Six Pavilion, Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, and Bleeker made their way to Baltimore on this hot and chill night. With a lineup like this, you couldn’t ask for a more summer vibe type of environment. From the alternative rock, to reggae, to ska, to even some hip hop, everybody was able to enjoy something and photographer Luis Rosales was able to provide coverage for this stacked tour.
First up was Bleeker, an upcoming band from Toronto, Canada and right away they meant business. Wasting no time, the band proceeded to play their set which was mostly from their latest self-titled EP which included their single “Highway.” Bleeker had a variety of sounds which can be heard from the vintage mic sound to modern crushing guitars. Lead singer, Taylor Perkins, was the most energetic of the bunch as he made use of the stage space very wisely. You can tell from the way he moved, he was very excited to be there. All together the band sounded great and you could hear members of the audience say nothing but good things about the band.
Tribal Seeds took stage following up and was very clear that they had a pretty big fan base, considering the venue was starting to fill up as soon as Bleeker was done. What you got from the moment they started was the feeling of summer vibes and good times. Especially on a hot summer day, listening to good reggae was appropriate and that’s where Tribal Seeds came in. When you’re at an open venue such as Pier Six Pavilion, the amount of natural light coming from the harbor made for plenty of golden light, which lit up the stage. Just goes to show that a band doesn’t always need an extravagant light show during the day. As far as the band sounded, you couldn’t tell that there were two keyboards because they were that in sync between tone and timing. Tribal Seeds was an altogether great band and a must watch.
Up next was hip hop/ska group Dirty Heads. By the time they were up next to perform, they had started using a variety of lighting for their set since it was getting dark out. With that being said, Dirty Heads had phenomenal production with a variety of colors and patterns. Having the cross between hip hop and ska, it was nice seeing guitarist/vocalist, Dustin Bushnell, go from playing guitar and singing to having no guitar and start rapping along side Dirty J the whole night. Having separate percussions played by Jon Olazabal added to the authenticity of the reggae sound they had as well. You could clearly hear fans all over the venue sing along and scream through some of their favorites such as “Burn Slow” and “My Sweet Summer.” It was hard to stand still for any of their set as the music was extremely catchy and is easy to listen to. Dirty Heads is definitely a group that shouldn’t be missed on this tour so you should try to catch them for the rest of the dates coming up.
