Windwaker have released the official music video for “dna,” the latest single from their upcoming third studio album, ‘smile, you’re on camera.’, arriving October 23 via Fearless Records.
Originally released on September 18, “dna” continues the Australian band’s genre-blurring approach, combining heavy riffs and screams with synths, hip-hop-inspired verses and melodic hooks.
Lyrically, the track explores identity, self-worth and the struggle to break destructive patterns, while also addressing the pressure to seek validation and present an idealized version of yourself in an increasingly social media-driven world.
“‘dna’ explores a deeply internal struggle with identity, self-worth, and the feeling of being trapped by one’s own nature. The song reflects on emotional instability and the pressure of living up to expectations, while battling impulses, ego, and the fear of never truly changing.”
The band added that authenticity is a recurring theme throughout the upcoming album, with “dna” examining the conflict between personal growth and the feeling that certain behaviors and flaws are permanently ingrained.
‘smile, you’re on camera.’ follows Windwaker’s 2024 sophomore album, ‘HYPERVIOLENCE’, and 2022 debut, ‘Love Language’. The upcoming record centers on themes of growth, sacrifice and authenticity while documenting the emotional highs and lows the band experienced during this period.
