FOR FANS OF: Darko, Emmure, Kublai Khan

Attention lovers of bouncy riffs, filthy breakdowns and stellar screams: Nu-metalcore band Deficit is here and proving to be a hell of a force to be reckoned with.

The Western Sydney, Australia four piece made up of vocalist Nathan Newman, guitarist Macleane Ryan, bassist Blake Fry, and drummer Zak Borg have made quite the impact in the underground nu-metalcore scene following the release of their debut EP Window of Pain’ in August of 2020. The release quickly surpassed 100,000 streams on Spotify alone, which is undoubtedly deserved as the three- track EP holds up against some of the biggest names in the metalcore scene currently, including names (but not limited to) like Polaris, Alpha Wolf, Justice for the Damned, and the legendary Emmure.

The group has no intention of slowing down following the release of their phenomenal EP, as they have tons of demos ready to be released in the future, including their next single “Trigger”, which is set for release on February 12th on CaliberTV!

We had the opportunity to chat with Deficit so they could let you know why they should be on your radar!

WHY DO OUR READERS NEED TO CHECK YOU OUT:

“We like to think were offering a sound that blends all of our influences together whilst also having our own unique sound that sets us apart from the modern metal/hardcore band of 2021. In saying that, we have loads of catchy riffs, pissed off lyrics and heavy breakdowns so if you’re into that go and check us out.”

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES IN/OUT OF THE SCENE?

“Individually we all have our own influences when it comes to who we listen to. We find influence in bands that hold themselves to a high standard when it comes to work ethic and that arent afraid to take risks as they set themselves apart from current trends in heavy music, such as; Parkway Drive and Thy Art is Murder who have a never stop attitude and helped put Australian heavy music on the map and paved the way for newer bands such as Polaris, Justice For The Damned & Alpha Wolf to break through.
It helps us stay motivated when setting goals, writing new music and coming up with new ideas and ways to promote and get our music heard by as many people as we can!”

WHEN SHOWS FINALLY RETURN, WHY SHOULD NEW FANS COME SEE YOU LIVE?

“Your first show after a global pandemic should be one to remember, so come see us haha.”

DREAM ARTIST(S) TO TOUR WITH IN THE FUTURE?

“If we’re talking DREAM artist it would definitely be Metallica because its fuckin’ Metallica haha.
Realistically though, for an international band it would have to be Kublai Khan (TX), we all love that band and were blown away when we saw them live so that would be sick.
For an Aussie band, we would love to tour with Polaris, as they are definitely setting the tone for all aussie bands right now and would be huge to jump on a tour with them!”
