8.5 Sacramento based metalcore boys Kingdom of Giants have returned with their latest release, ‘Burning Chrome’. This marks their first release since last year’s ’Bleeding Star’ EP. It dives into a lot of the vibes of that last release, still exploring what makes them special and their ever growing sound and continuously setting themselves apart from the rest of their peers.

The EP starts out with “Tune Me Out”, and we immediately get the electronic vibes to set the tone of the six tracks here. The riff is pretty bangin’ as always on this one, and it feels very pop-infused throughout. Vocalist Dana Willax flexing his vocal muscles singing and screaming, is always impressive to see. The chorus is pretty solid too, with bassist and other vocalist Jonny Reeves sounding great as always. We get the first of many hard hitting, but groovy breakdowns here and it sets the tone nicely.
We follow up with the lead single off this release, with “Collide”. The electronic elements on this song specifically I’m such a sucker for, and it works incredibly well for this band. There feels like even more groove in the instrumentals here, and it feels reminiscent of a band like ERRA. The guitar tone from guitarists Max Bremer and Julian Perez are super crisp and clean, and I’m here for it. It’s got such an ear worm of a chorus, and it really does feel like this band at their best. The bridge of this track, breakdown included, kick so much ass. And I’m also a sucker for a lo-fi outro, as it feels fitting for a song like this.
We’re followed up with one of my favorites on here, with “Lead Me Back”. This one really has got the vibes of both the previous EP and their 2020 album, ‘Passenger’. The riff here feels pretty nu-metal influenced, and the chorus feels like signature KOG. The bouncy vibe is felt throughout, and it’s such a fun time all around. Dana’s lows on this track are a nice touch, as we don’t get to hear them super often. It feels well placed as we listen through this release as a whole.
We then get probably the most out there song on this EP, with “Cold Burn”. It’s different for them in sound mostly, and yet it feels right at home being on this release. I just love how the electronic elements feel very neon throughout this EP, and it feels injected fully into the identity of this band in 2025. This song in particular gives me vibes of that Bad Omens remix album from last year. The second chorus goes pretty hard as it’s full band, and the breakdown feels quite earned here in its structure. It’s just so synthwave in the best way possible, and that goes for any of these six tracks.
We reach the penultimate track of this release and another highlight for me, with “Taste of Poison”. The vibes feel so immaculate and consistent throughout all six tracks, that I can’t help but shoutout how impressive that is. The melodies are huge on this one, especially during the chorus. The drumming by drummer Truman Berlin, is an absolute standout on this track. Jonny really does a lot of the heavy lifting on this song as well, and his voice feels so distinct and smooth to carry a song like this. And it’s got the best breakdown on here for what it’s worth, as it’s chaotic and vibe-y at the same time.
We reach the final track and the second single released, as well as my favorite on this release with “Digital Hell”. The fun progressive vibes are carried onto this song, and it’s another one where the electronic elements shine so bright for me. It’s easily got my favorite chorus across all six tracks, and the melodies are through the roof on a song like this. This one is probably a top 5 song for me when it comes to this band’s discography as a whole. It makes me wish this EP and the previous one were fused together to make one album with all bangers. But that goes to show how strong they are in dropping quality songs lately.
So all in all, ‘Burning Chrome’ is yet another testament to why Kingdom of Giants is consistently one of the best bands in metalcore right now. It’s a great follow up from last year’s release, and it truly keeps in line with the electronic infused style they’ve been going for.
