Broadside Find The Best Version Of Themslves With ‘Nowhere, At Last’

0

Pop-rock kings Broadside have returned with their fifth studio album, with ‘Nowhere, At Last’. This marks their first release since their 2023 album, ‘Hotel Bleu’. This record dives into what this band has been doing on the two albums prior to this, furthering their growth and aiming to be the best version of themselves with these tracks. In the wake of the success of a band such as The Home Team, Broadside have their path to success laid out for them and it’s all on this record.

This album has all sorts of bangers and it feels crazy consistent with how they’re back to back. Some of the singles feel like their best to date with tracks like “Someone You Need”, “Blissed Out”, and “I Think They Know”. They know how to pack these with insane melodies and feeling fresh on every single one of these songs. The deep cuts on the album have a lot to offer as well. They easily could’ve been singles too with tracks like “Cherry Red Ego Death”, “Dead Roses”, and “Mushroom Cloud”. It just goes to show how much effort they put into really all of these songs to make a record full of jams that are worthy of being played for the rest of the year. I appreciate the gloomy sort of energy in a lot of these tracks. They’re fun pop-rock, but they have that tinge of gloom to really set them apart from everyone else.

Lead singer Oliver Baxxter continues to be quietly one of the best vocalists in our scene today. He has such an energy and cadence that you don’t find in your usual frontman. His voice has worked well in the past for pop-punk, and it shines bright like a diamond in their current era of pop-rock. He really stands out on tracks like “Control Freak” and “What Are You Leaving Behind”. The aura he gives can be felt throughout every single one of these songs, and he brings such a distinct energy to this band like he always has. I really love the slight electronic feel in some of these songs as well, it gives off Don Broco vibes at times and shows how much this band has grown five albums in. The instrumentals have a hand in that to really build the environment of all these songs. Hats off to bassist Pat Diaz, guitarist Domenic Reid, and drummer Tay Ewart for building that as well as Oliver

I really think that Broadside have indeed found the best version of themselves with “Nowhere, At Last”. It amplifies and expands upon what worked on their last two albums, and made an album full of their best material to date. It would be unwise to continue sleeping on this band, as they’ve quietly cemented themselves as one of the best to do it in the scene.
