‘The Touring The End Of The World Tour’ Featuring Motionless In White, Knocked Loose, After The Burial, & Alpha Wolf – San Jose, CA – 10.1.23
After three runs of the ‘Trinity of Terror Tour’, a European tour, a co-headliner with In This Moment, and a few festival appearance all over the world, the Scranton, PA metalcore band Motionless In White have finally embarked on a headlining tour for their latest album ‘Scoring The End Of The World’ that they’ve dubbed the ‘Touring The End Of The World Tour’. On October 1st, Motionless In White, along with Knocked Loose, After The Burial, and Alpha Wolf, made their way to San Jose Civic in San Jose, CA for one of the biggest “must-see” tours of the Fall.
Kicking off things for the night were the Australian metalcore band Alpha Wolf. A personal favorite of mine as the energy of an Alpha Wolf performance always stays at a 10; this night was no different. The band began their set with “Rot In Pieces” from their 2020 record ‘A Quiet Place To Die’. During their performance of “Sub-Zero”, guitarist Sabian Lynch jumped onto the barricade and crowd surfed his guitar — something I can truly say I’ve never seen done before. Perhaps the highlight of the set happened when the band revealed that they have recently finished recording their brand new album and treated fans with a performance of an unreleased song titled “Bring Back The Noise”.
Next up on the bill were After The Burial. Though its been four years since the release of their last full-length studio album ‘Evergreen’, ATB have stayed busy this year with the release of their two-track EP ‘Embrace The Infinity’ and with an opening slot on Spiritbox’s ‘Eternal Blue’ headliner earlier this year. Their six-song set list was short, but there was not a shortage of bangers whatsoever — which included “In Flux”, “Lost In The Static”, “Exit, Exist”, “Collapse”, “Death Keeps Us From Living”, and “Behold The Crown”.
The Kentucky metalcore band Knocked Loose was up next. Coming out absolutely swinging with a performance of one of their newest tracks “Deep In The Willow”. Nothing short of chaos ensued as the set continued with performances of “God Knows”, “Belleville”, “Where Light Divides The Holler”, “Deadringer”, “Counting Worms”, just to name a few. The mosh pit was bigger for K//L than they’ve been for every band previously. At one point, a massive wall of death formed from the first few rows all the way back to FOH. The band concluded their set with their other newest track “Everything Is Quiet Now”.
Up next was the main event: Motionless In White. Starting the night off with the first and second tracks from ‘Scoring The End Of The World’ “Meltdown” and “Sign of Life”, Chris Motionless and co. took the stage. The stage production was huge and made San Jose Civic feel like an arena performance. The set featured guest appearance from the frontmen of all the bands opening. Lochie Keogh joined the band for “Immaculate Misconception”, Bryan Garris for “Slaughterhouse”, and Anthony Notarmaso for “Reincarnate”. Zombie even took a break from their busy acting schedule to join the band for “Not My Type: Dead as Fuck 2”. The last time MIW performed in San Jose was for the ‘Trinity Of Terror Tour’ where their set was cut short due to illness. The band vowed to make it up to San Jose by giving fans in attendance a different set list than the rest of the tour. The result was a performance of “City Lights” from their 2010 album ‘Creatures’; a beautiful surprise. The band concluded their set with an encore performance of “Scoring The End Of The World”, ending the unforgettable night.
