Stay Amped: A Concert To End Gun Violence – Washington, DC – 3.23.18
The night before the highly anticipated “March For Our Lives” event in the heart of Washington, DC, The Anthem held Stay Amped: A Concert To End Gun Violence, a benefit show to support gun safety. Various speakers from past gun violence events, celebrities, and artists dropped their message to those in attendance. These artists include Cam, Lizzo, Bebe Rexha, G-Eazy, and Fall Out Boy. All proceed for this show went to Everytown for Gun Safety & Giffords. Check out the gallery below as our photographer Luis Rosales took photos of each speaker and artist for this cause.
Speakers for this event included: Nza-Ari Khepra (founder of Project Orange Tree, a youth-led violence awareness organization), Alex G (YouTuber with 1.5M subscribers known for her music and being a voice in the LGBT community), Miles McKenna (social media content creator and LGBTQ+ activist), and José Andrés (An award-winning Spanish-American chef based in Washington D.C. who also won the National Humanities Medal). These speakers were not the only voices heard for the night, some included students who are personally affected by school shootings; Christopher Underwood, Joselande Milius, Julia Spoor, Timothy LaRoque, Matthew Soto, Michie Grant, Sophie Ayoung-Chee, Yijie Huang, and Sheryl Aquaroli. There were also special videos from organizations and celebrities who could not make it to the show such as Everytown For Gun Safety, Girl Be Heard, Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio), Carmelo Anthony, Justin Tranter, Sam Harris (X Ambassadors), Samantha Bee, James Valentine (Maroon 5), Tom Morello (Prophets Of Rage), and Brendon Urie (Panic! At The Disco).
Performance from the night went in order with country singer Cam, singer Lizzo, Bebe Rexha, rapper G-Eazy, and pop punk legends Fall Out Boy. Due to circumstances, Halsey was not able to perform as originally scheduled. However that didn’t slow down any of the performers to put on fantastic sets that blew everyone away and got them ready for the march the next morning which they gave out free.
